Cop Out is an upcoming buddy cop comedy film created by siblings Mark Cullen and Robb Cullen and directed by Kevin Smith. The movie features Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.
Two vet cops ( portrayed by Willis and Morgan ) track down a stolen vintage baseball card. While they’re on their chase they rescue Gabriela ( Ana de la Reguera ) and deal with mafia and their money laundering.
The film also includes Sean William Scott, Adam Brody, Kevin Pollack, Jason Lee, and Michelle Trachtenberg. Cop Out is the first motion picture directed by Kevin Smith which he didn’t write. The other films that he directed and wrote are Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl.
The flick was meant to star Robin Williams and James Gandolfini. Willis, Morgan, and Smith all agree to have a cut in their salary so the flick can get an R rating. In fact, Smith’s salary in Cop Out is less than what he made in 1999′s Dogma. He directed the movie because he knew it was something his late pa would have enjoyed had he been alive. Smith also acts, except for writing and directing. He appeared alongside Willis in Live Free or Die Hard. He also did Manchild – a film authored by the Cullen brothers. The screenplay was included in the 2008 Black List, a catalogue of the best unproduced film scripts.
It’s also interesting to notice that Kevin Smith incidentally came up with the title. The original title attached to the project was 2 Cops. This was being finished to attach the trailer behind Sherlock Holmes in time for xmas weekend. It was being rushed. He told the producer,’The title is going to feel like a cop out.’ And that was that.
